How do you know you have raw1394 functioning? If you had the appropriate 
permissions you wouldn't get the message "raw1394 no read/wright...".

What am I missing? I don't see a firewire device here. Was the firewire 
card inserted when you used the lspci command? Are you sure the chip is 
supported by Linux?
