Since his system already is fubar, what harm would it do to delete
the files? It's not like it's gonna get worse, is it? Otoh, you don't
have to delete the files, you could just move them to another folder.
but that may be unpractical, depending on the number of files.
I'd say you have to bite the bullet, delete the files and hope
for the best. If it's dead after that, you should locate a W2K
disc. They shouldn't be that hard to get ahold of. I don't
suppose you could persuade him to install Ubuntu? That
would be the ultimate cure.
