For what its worth, there is an article in this month's "Linux
Magazine" using gpsDrive and a usb GPS receiver that might be of
interest.

I don't know if Tom-Tom comes as a usb device, and I haven't tried the
setup in the article, but it seems it IS possible to set up a GPS
navigation system with open source tools now.
