So mpd is run under a separate account right? What happens if you
change the permissions of /dev/dsp to be owned by the mpd user only?
i.e. only allow mpd to use sound, rather than locking other users out?
All you need to know about Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty -> gconftool -s --type
