I don't think the case so drastic that hacking is needed. I am sure you
will be able to work it out somehow.

BTW, which kernel are you using? I ask because I recently installed
2.6.30 kernel in Juanty and that caused to audio output to be barely
audible in volume. Rebooting the same machine with 2.6.28 (Jaunty's
kernel) worked okay with all audio applications. Thought I should
mention this since just a change of kernel can affect the audio system.
