While RMS can be hard to listen to sometimes - I gotta sympathize with 
his desire for recognition here - because without gcc, libc, bash, vi, 
emacs etc linux would just be a kernel unable to be used for anything 
useful.  There is a whole lot of 'gnu' in there :-)

I personally think it would not hurt for for Linus to acknowledge this 
more directly.
