"Places" in Ubuntu 9 does not work.

I've installed Ubuntu 9 (64-bit) in a Virtual Box environment. When I go to
'Places' and click on any of the folder options presented, I get nothing. A
window is supposed to open up showing the folders and files but nothing
happens. I downloaded the latest version of Ubuntu last night. What is the
fix for this problem?
