How to get icons working(netbook-launcher desktop) for self-compiled apps.

I recently compiled twinkle phone from sources I downloaded from its website.
I installed under my home directory,now I want it to appear on my Ubuntu 
Netbook-launcher Desktop,like a Ubuntu application(Firefox etc. when we
click on the icon it grows and launches the application).
I have under my twinkle/share directory a file named twinkle.desktop and
3 png images of the twinkle logo,is it enough to put them under any other
directory of Ubuntu to emulate an original Ubuntu app,and it to appear(icon)
on the Netbook-launcher desktop and when we click it grows and launches
the application?
