Yep - it's supposed to work.
Being honest with you, for what you want I'd check out Dropbox.
UbuntuOne will eventually do things Dropbox won't do - but right now
Dropbox has the features you want plus cross platform (Windows, MacOS)
as well, I've been using it several months now in Jaunty and MacOS
and am pleased with it.
Dropbox does have one of the referral schemes where I get more space
if you sign up. If you choose to - you could do thru

have to or anything. I'd recommend it regardless.
