Why my ubuntu usb interface is always halt?

Oddly enough, I've noticed the exact same issues when copying music,
installers, or whathaveyou onto my flash drives (a 4GB Kingston, and an
8GB Sandisk)...it seems that immediately after starting, the speed
rapidly ramps down until it crawls at >1kbps, occasionally jumpung back
up to 30/40kbps... yet reading/copying off goes pretty fast 100mbps+

I just figured it was the flash drives, and I've seen complaints on a
lot of newegg flash drives (including mine) doing the same thing under
Mac, Windows, and Linux. If anybody else has any ideas though, I'd love
to hear!
