First off, let me state that it may be something I did. Plus, with all
the things I've tried from reading the internet, things are probably all
screwed up now.
I am running ubuntu 9.04 installed about a month ago from a Canonical
CD. Since then it has been upgraded a few times including three kernel
updates.
I currently have NO sound of any type.
When booting off the live CD the sound is perfect and I get the following:

ubuntu at ubuntu:~$ aplay -l

===========================================
However, when running the installed program I get the following:
===========================================
ehspayne at ubuntu:~$ aplay -l
aplay: device_list:217: no soundcards found...
ehspayne at ubuntu:~$ aplay -L
ehspayne at ubuntu:~$

The sound card is the built-in motherboard sound.
Any ideas where to start or what other info to send to this list?
Obviously not a bios problem. Could it be a kernel problem?
Thanks;
Emil
PS - Dell Dimension 2350 with 512k ram (was 384K when I got it.)
