There may be a BIOS entry which disables the wireless as default. 
Usually you can switch it on with a hardware switch or a key shortcut 
(e.g. Fn + F10).

Other than that you could check if the wireless chip is supported by the 
kernel with the command

sudo lshw -C network

in a terminal and you can post the output here so we can help you 
further.
