This used to work for hard drives that won't spin (something about the
magnetic attraction between the platter and the head being too strong
for the hard drive motor to get the platter spinning.) Freezing was an
alternative to percussion adjustment (my usual trick to overcome this
problem) or brief overvoltage. However, this is an old problem with
hard drives that I haven't seen in nigh 8 years, or more, so I really
doubt it will do any good to keep this old hat trick circulating
