Probably so and the intend of definition.
Let me illustrate the way it works at our place:

SMTP = PostFix
IMAP = Courier IMAP or POP

External email ---> SMTP ---> mail folders
Email client   ---> SMTP ---> External SMTP
mail folders   ---> IMAP ---> Email client

Some of us were assuming that the original poster wanted the IMAP/POP part.
