I got a refund, and got them to build a new machine with the Gibabyte
GA-MA790XT-UD4P board.  This works fine, although (because of a ubiquity
bug) I had to use the alternate text installer.

From my experience, I would recommend that people avoid the Asus M4A78 Pro
board.
