where you would replace the /media/disk part with the actual mount
point 
if I guessed wrong.

Then you can backup your files to the new directory which is owned by 
you.

Thank-you Nils, I kew it wouldn't be difficult but everything I found on
the web fell just short of the answer.I have made a note in my notebook
for the future.
