Not quite excatly, it only hides the portion that doesn't fit
on the screen; when at the command prompt you can scroll
horizontally using the arrow keys.
That fits my normal use case where I let logs scroll by; when
interesting things show up: ^C into command mode and look at
the details, YMMV.
