+1 on Audacity. It's excellent. I used it last night to convert the
WAVs of two demos into MP3 to send by email to a collaborator for
evaluation. Loads of features available for complex ("professional")
operations, but also simple to use for basic tasks. My oldest son has
been using it on Windows for years. So make that +2 on Audacity.
