googleearth wont display weather

Just a thought, have you tried to use "Weather Report" 

Right click panel -> Add to Panel... (gnome desktop)

Scroll down to "Weather Report"

Click Add

Right click the applet and choose preference to configure your location.

It's simple weather watcher and you do multiple locations, just keep
adding to the panel.  Perhaps this is alternate solution if you can't
get Google Earth to work.
