Problems using live CD on new machine

I tried Knoppix but after the splash screen it goes blank, either
during or just after kernel loading.

I guess it's looking like it's a faulty motherboard.

Is there any non-linux live CD that I could try, to be able to prove
that it's not a Linux-specific problem? My supplier doesn't support
Linux, though they seem to be reasonable to deal with.
