I don't know if I'm posting this to the right place. But I have a question.
I installed Ubuntu on my PC to a partition along side my XP OS. Install went great, some things happened that i didn't understand, like a black screen and a blinking text line, and I could just enter random text, like a terminal, but nothing happend....
but that's beside the point. After installing, when I tried to boot, the orangeish screen came up with my cursor, then went to black, made the start-up noise, and the mouse pointer turned into the loading mouse, and then nothing happens. Any advice?

You are at the right place for Ubuntu help-:))
It sound like you may have an X windows issue.
Try booting up in recovery mode and running "xfix", the last entry in the menu that loads when running recovery mode. See if that fixes
your issue. After xfix runs to completion, select
continue boot when the option is offered. Let us know if this fixes the issue or if you need more help.
Also, you didn't say which version of Ubuntu you are running. In some cases you need to fully update your version to get X windows working correctly. Do that from a terminal, CNTL-ALT-F1, sign in then:
sudo aptitude update (let it complete)
Then:
sudo aptitude safe-upgrade
Continue the above until it wont upgrade any more.
You may need to run xfix again if that doesn't
solve the issue. Let us know the outcome or
if you need more help.
If you come back for additional help, be sure
to list you ubuntu version, graphics card ID
and output of lshw and lsmod.
