Can't get resolution higher than 640x480 after playing Frets on Fire

I don't have a solution for this problem other than a work around.  If
Windows is still installed trying doing a small install of Ubuntu
using Wubi, if X.org shows the right resolution settings copy the
config to a floppy or USB stick.  Uninstall that copy of Ubuntu take
that config file and overright the one in your current 8.10 install.
I've heard this works.

Also, after researching this problem for a while I've discovered that
it seems to impact those who have older Nvida cards and off-brand
monitors a majority of the time.  If you have the latest and greatest
hardware and a brand name flat panel chances are you won't see this
problem.
