sound error using microphone

Im having trouble using my mic. Under system > preferences > Audio 
Conferencing, choosing any option listed gets me this error:

Failed to construct test pipeline for 'gconfaudiosrc ! audioconvert ! 
audioresample ! gconfaudiosink profile=chat'

My playback is Intel 82801DB-lCH4

Im using a usb mic on a logitech quickcam. That option is not present 
though to choose from.
