Oh, got it. I think that is a similar problem to what is in the links I
posted earlier. Googling for texlive AND dpkg AND ubuntu finds lots of
links with dpkg  issues.

Maybe I wasn't all that clear. Do you need texlive? If not, can you try
to uninstall it, possibly followed by a "aptitude reinstall dpkg"?
If this succeeds, try to remove gettext and gtypist again.
