    "info" or "texinfo"?
    And did you check whether you have the package "texinfo" installed?

I have TeXLive 2008 installed.  Doing `texinfo --version' doesn't do
anything.  `info --version' gives, 

sean at g41r2f1:~$ info --version
info (GNU texinfo) 4.12

    Why? My post included instructions that I think will fix it. Better to
    try that first (and if it does not work we'll try other things)

I thought that I have tried what you have suggested, but could you
please remind me of what you think ought to correct the problem?
