I'd have to say no. Certainly there are times that it could work, but if,
for instance, you were using a KDE3-based distro and a KDE4-based distro,
things would get ugly. So it's more than just being debian-based. You can
move from one distro to another fairly well, though not easily, but trying
to share files is likely to be disastrous.
