errors on log out

I'm at work now on an AIX box, so I cannot be absolutely certain of the
Linux naming standards, but you should find all the logs you're after in
/var/log
Syslog will be in there and providing it's been configured to log the
usual information, you should find all messages from startup, normal
running and shutdown in there. If you're not finding the information
you're after, try tweaking the syslog.conf file to increase the detail
level of logging.
