errors on log out

Well I don't. It doesn't seem to catch them. I've just been through 
every log file shown in the System Log Viewer, and there are no error 
messages that occurred during shutdown, just those messages that occur 
after each start up.

So, how does one trap the error messages shown on the shut down screen?
