The fact that no soundcards are detected is no surprise, as your lsmod output 
below shows that the driver/module for the soundcard is not loaded. the lspci 
-vn output is all a bit vague, and there is no indication as to which is the 
soundcard. Normally you see the soundcard identified, and which driver it 
uses. Perhaps you'd post the lspci output again, but this time as.
lspci -vvnn  . This should give more output.

what machine is your Ubuntu Hardy 8.0.4 installed on? PC/Laptop, make, and 
model.
