how to make an imagemap for my website using gimp

I am using ubuntu 9.04 and gimp 2.6.6.

I open gimp, and open an image.

Then I choose gimp - filter - web - Image Map.

My image is then in one window, and the Image map in another window.

Then I make the image map, but when I save it, it is saved with a "map"
extension.

When I read in grokking the gimp, I am told to save the image map with an
"htm or html" extension.

Can anybody explain me how to do it.

When I save it with a html extension, and then open this in firefox, I
get an imagemap, but without the original image.

Please explain in detail, so other people also might benefit from it,
thanks.

I have even tried kimagemapeditor, but I cannot find any documentation
for this program, or how to use it.

Happy new year to all you great ubuntu people.
