Install "git" http://git-scm.com/ - using synaptic pack manager

In System, Administration, Synaptic Package Manager select git-core
and (if you want to use them) git-gui and gitk by right clicking each
one and select Mark For Installation.  Then click the Apply button.

Alternatively in a terminal window (Applications, Accessories, Terminal) type
sudo apt-get install git-core git-gui gitk
followed by the Enter key.
