They stand to make money by selling me a webcam.

Do you mention to the vendors that you intend to use their hardware
with Linux when you but it? Because if you don't, then there is
nothing for them to notice.

I do not care about converting people to my religion, OS, or
scientific theory. I do care that my religion, OS, and scientific
theory are solid and stand on their own merits. So long as Linux /
Ubuntu / PetOS do not support the hardware that I need it to support,
I have no use for it. Which OS would you recommend for me if I want to
use a webcam?

So have you written to the hardware vendors to express interest in
Linux support?

Of the installs I've performed, about one third stay with Linux.
Actually, with Kubuntu 9.04 I don't think anyone is using something
else as their primary OS. But most people don't want a primary and
secondary OS, they will use what works with all their hardware easily.
Note: I find that it is those who dual-boot Windows and Kubuntu who
hate Windows the most. Once people realize that there is something
better and continue to use (and compare) the two on a near-daily
basis, the flaws of Windows really start to stand out.

That's great to know. One of the biggest problems facing Linux
adoption in my opinion is Windows-only software.
