virtualbox wont show USB ports in the guest OS

Do you have the USB filters enbled in the settings manager?

Settings|USB|'Enable USB Controller' + 'Enable USB 2.0 (EHCI) Controller

Also: Help|Contents|3.7.9 USB support and 11.5.7. USB not working
