dell mini 9 with ubuntu 8.04 and 3g modem

hello all   i have a dell mini 9 running ubuntu and a sprint u760 3g broadband modem.  i have  had no success getting device to work on my mini 9.  can someone pls provide assistance regarding this endeavor to get the device working properly.  thanks
