With the pc he's trying to put Ubuntu onto might not be able to boot
from the CD.  The pc I had that used WindowME I had to use a floppy
with the drivers for the cd rom drive.  Once that was loaded, you then
manually started the set up process...  So it's quite possible that
his BIOS doesn't support booting from a CD.
