Maybe it's this bug raising it's head again:
<https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flashplugin-nonfree/+bug/173890?comments=all>
[flashplugin-nonfree fails to install due to md5sum mismatch]

Try:

$ sudo apt-get purge flashplugin-nonfree flashplugin-installer
$ sudo apt-get install abobe-flashplugin

flashplugin-nonfree & flashplugin-installer is a transitional package &
abobe-flashplugin will take care of flash requirements for both (U)Fx
3.0.x and 3.5.x

Reopen Fx (both versions if you have both 3.0.x and 3.5.x installed) and
test using: http://flash.com

You should then also see:
$ sudo update-alternatives --all

There is only 1 program which provides firefox-flashplugin
(/usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so). Nothing to configure.

And in Fx: about:plugins
Shockwave Flash

    File name: libflashplayer.so
    Shockwave Flash 10.0 r32
