Issue with networking/link aggregation

I have it all working fine again now, thanks to using wicd in place of
network-manager but the throughput on the network port is ridiculously slow.
I'm only getting about 14-15MB/s on gigabit network port when writing to the
drives I am shared on the Ubuntu box.Is there any way that I can tune the
network or drive set up to improve this situation as at the moment it would
be faster for me to use a USB2 external drive and do away with my Ubuntu
box.
The reason for an Ubuntu box is so that I can add any drives I want
configure them as shared disks and write to them from the machines on my
network, Macs and 1 PC but as the slow speeds I'm getting its making me
think of going back to windows as I got substantially higher rates when the
machine was running windows.
Any help would be appreciated!
Cheers
Jamie
