XBMC was originally called X Box Media Centre for a reason :-)
It makes a really really good media centre - even my wife uses it.
If you have a wireless controller for it and you aren't after full HD
content, then it's as good or better as any other media center
available, even though it's running on that old XBox. I doubt the
rather anemic hardware would work very well as a media centre on top
of a full fledged linux distro.
Getting anything installed on top of the MS protected hardware can be
a pain... I've got one here I can't get working regardless of what I
try, even though I duplicated my working setup.
