Ad-blocker And a similar subject

Hi,
What bothers me as much as the ads are the animated pictures. If I'm trying to 
read something to get information, having a bunch of cartoons flashing on and 
off around the edges is annoying. There must be some way that the browser 
could just load a still image. I'm using Firefox, but might change if another 
browser offered this option.

Any ideas?
