Privoxy and an up-to-date Hosts file. You can get one from:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
Open a text editor in root mode then just copy the file and append it
(add it) to the existing text in /etc/hosts, but omit or comment out
the line that is in the copied file which says:
127.0.0.1 localhost
but not in the text that was already in /etc/hosts. Then copy the
new file back to /etc/hosts.
www.mvps.org regularly updates its hosts file so its worth having in
your armoury, as its a bit more up to date.
If you are using Ubuntu (not sure about Xubuntu or Kubuntu) there's an
app called gnome-network-properties which can set Privoxy settings
system-wide so you don't have to set them for each browser. That will,
however, ignore the URLs you have in your ignore list, which shouldn't
be a problem. Just set each browser to accept the system proxy
settings.
