Just wanted to step in to qualigy this statement. Skype uses only KDE
libraries. So, first off, if skype is working, then KDE, or at least its
libs, are fine. Next, most common problems arise out of the audio
system. Now it could happen that KDE is doing something funny with the
mic and speakers, then it might be called a KDE problem. Same thing with
Gnome, to be fair. But the basic thing is how is Skype using your audio
devices and whether the audio devices are working properly. I the last
few years I have used Skype, this is the only issue I have had to deal
with. The solution was to:
1. Make sure the audio devices are working independent of Skype.
2. Make Skype the right audio devices for input and output.
Recently though, there is this whole new issue of video since webcam
support is not exhaustive in Linux, but this is a separate issue.
