Well, the Ubuntu page for "how to upgrade to 9.04" says very clearly
that to upgrade from 8.04 you need to upgrade through 8.10.

   http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading

"Before You Start
You can only directly upgrade to Ubuntu 9.04 from Ubuntu 8.10
    (see UpgradeNotes).

Be sure that you have all updates applied to Ubuntu 8.10 before
    you upgrade."

Seemed fairly conclusive to me. Have you, personally, actually upgraded
from 8.04 to 9.04 without first upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10? How did it
go?

Regards, K.
