change from apt-get to aptitude

That's not the same thing.  --simulate says not to do _anything_, and isn't
smart enough to figure out what it would actually do _if_ some of the
instructions it is simulating were actually run.

You can use "--schedule", I believe, and then "--simulate" and it should
work.
