Which scanner did you get?  What was it that he had to do?  Maybe you
can save the next poor 'bastert' some same hard ache.  Like me.  For too
many people, I am that guy who lives 500km away, and I need one of those
guys myself.

I got the Mustek Scanexpress 1248UB and now that it works it is as good
as I hoped it would be. I asked my son what he had to do and here is his
reply:-

'This particular problem required an understanding of USB, how the
system assigns access privileges, a reasonable amount of google-fu and
the ability to read enough Italian to know it was worth translating the
blog posting.'

I am non the wiser but maybe you are.
