Have you verified your ISO file is not corrupted? Was it a downloaded
ISO, or one you generated yourself. If it was a downloaded ISO, most
sites also provide an MD5 checksum to check the ISO against to make
sure its a valid ISO image.

Have you tried using wodim from the command-line to burn the image?
You can do so with the following:

wodim -v dev=/dev/cdrom driveropts=burnfree -sao -eject -data /path/to/
iso/file

/dev/cdrom should work for Ubuntu, but as always, make sure it's set
to the correct path for *your system*. Using the above command will
spit a bunch of stuff out to the screen that you won't have to worry
about, but will show burn progress indication as well. Obviously,
look for any indication of errors during the burn. Most (if not all)
of the CD burning applications available in Ubuntu use wodim on the
back-end to burn the CD for you, so you're basically "going to the
source" with the command. Be mindful that it doesn't necessarily
check the validity of the image for you before burning it, though.
