/media is more commonly referred to in the Ubuntu community
documentation - I supposed because it's mostly removable media that gets
added via fstab:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Fstab
But certainly /mnt can/(should?) be used for mounting something like a
second drive, or partition, containing a filesystem?

I have to admit that I just stick everything in /media, as it's a
convenient location when I go looking for something (like an NTFS drive
or data partition) & don't have to look in /mnt as well.
