I had likewise open authenticating, configured, and working in under
10minutes. On a fresh install everything is quite smooth. I haven't noticed
any issues as of yet, been running on it for 2 weeks. I just setup bookmarks
for my shared folders and have them connect automatically upon login. One
thing to note, I read it somewhere but set a static IP before installing
likewise, seems to go smoother.
Here is what I did:
1. sudo apt-get update
2. sudo apt-get install likewise-open
3. sudo domainjoin-cli join fqdn.of.your.domain Administrator
4. sudo update-rc.d likewise-open defaults
5. sudo /etc/init.d/likewise-open start
6. sudo visudo
7. %DOMAIN.COM\\DNSADMINS -- add AD group to sudoers list, for admin. I
used the DnsAdmins group. ALL=(ALL) ALL
8. sudo nano -w /etc/samba/lwiauthd.conf
9. add: winbind use default domain = yes (users can now login with their
username, not having to put domain\username to login)
