G'day there Leonard,

> Not sure what exactly you are saying.
Well, you're not the first to say that & I doubt you'll be the last :)

> If your saying that update manager updates all desktop versions for a dist-(full)upgrade then I understand(know) that. Of course any packagee manager does this.

Only used one package manager, but I'm sure you're right there.

> If you are saying that synaptic, adept doesn't do that which I think is not the case then I'm confused.
    No, not saying that.

    That they do.
> My real question is "Does not synaptic or adept do version upgrades as well as update-manager handling all the dependencies adequately".
Ahhh... right. I didn't follow that bit. Unfortunately, I don't
really know how effective either one is compared to the update-manager.
I know that they work OK, but quantitative analysis is a bit past my
understanding.

> Most or many people at least recommend using synaptic for upgrading as it's supposed to handle dependencies well. Is there any package manager that does just as well as update-manager is the question?

I'd like to think so, but update-manager just pops up when necessary
so I haven't used Synaptic for that purpose.

See ya
