In addition to all the other advice (vmware, wine ...), by all means, 
you might start with Ubuntu Studio (http://ubuntustudio.org), this is 
specifically targeted at musicians and other artists.

Acutally I installed it for a musician with windows running on vbox. 
As a result, he finally figured out that he does not need Windows 
anymore, at all!! However I have to admit, that, imho, he does not do 
much music editing work.
