Best way to share Thunderbird Profiles across multiple machines.

What I would recommend, is that you set up a front end email server,
which will gather emails from your ISP and hold them locally for
delivery to client connections via IMAP.
With IMAP, each client machine (thunderbird) can access the same data
directories on the email server (your ubuntu server, for example.) The
plugin's are a different beast, but you don't need constant access to
the plug in files. I would suggest staying away from sharing a single
profile across multiple machines, and instead have different profiles
for each machine, while sharing one universal email-archive on a central
server.
Look into courier for the local email server. I haven't personally setup
a pop3 checker using it, but I am sure it is possible. Afterall M$ does
it in exchange 2k3.
